I don’t know what it is about cold, hard metal details that get me: is it because armored items make me feel tough? Stronger? Or because I can use the reflective surface to check if I have spinach in my teeth (which happens a lot, actually)? Either way, I am always drawn to shoes and clothing that have metal plates attached to them. Tastefully, of course.
That’s why when I first saw these summery yet edgy green sandals, I automatically knew I had to have them. I had never heard of GC shoes before my fateful encounter with the Sahara Flat style I fell in love with, but since they were vegan and cute, I really didn’t care.
The Sahara features a big-toe separator and a metal T-strap that kind of resembles an arrowhead, and its secured by chic gold metal nuts to ensure utmost decoration and stay-put-ness. An adjustable ankle strap is the point of entry, and the back heel portion features two gold-tone pieces bolted down, the largest metal part of the sandal. These are the parts that can double as a mirror — though you’d have to be pretty flexible to get it to reflect your face!
The bolts are flush against the shoe, so there isn’t anything poking at you when you’re actually wearing it. I took my Saharas out on a test run (hence the dirty soles) and have to say they were pretty comfy, since the sole is amply padded on the top of the sandal and the black rubbery portion on the bottom is nice and thick.
I found the Sahara sandals at a low price of $31.96 on Buckle in yellow, though those keen on these beauties can go digging further for more colors and price points. Still, it’s a pretty sweet deal, even at the regular price of $39.99!
Even though it is technically fall, these sandals are edgy enough to wear on the warmer days (it still feels like summer in NYC at this moment!). I’m definitely going to get as much mileage out of my new Saharas at every opportunity — hopefully they won’t rust!
Would buy again? Yes— I’ll take one in each color, please!
