Terry at Terri’s

One of my favorite grab-n-go healthy restaurants has got to be Terri’s. Just a few blocks from Herald Square, this little joint serves up some of the most delicious vegan sandwiches and wraps my taste buds have had the pleasure of entertaining.

The service is always very warm and friendly, if not terse and a bit rushed at lunchtime. I haven’t had a problem so far, and they even let you use their sink in the back for hand-washing… a must-do for NYers before laying into your sumptuous sammich :) 3.5 out of 5 for service.

Meatball Sub

A must-try is their Meatball Sub, essentially a humungo smorgasbord of delicious textured vegan protein spheres that really hit the spot. It comes with a delightful tangy tomato marinara dipping sauce which I like to get extra of, personally. The melted mozzarella Daiya cheese is probably my favorite part, and they are quite generous with it, to my delight. It’s all put together in a fluffy yet crisp grilled squarebread that perfectly complements the protein and really fills you up. I have trouble finishing mine at times, but get around to it eventually, because it’s THAT good. 5 out of 5 carrots!

Delicious Chiken Sammich!

Another sandwich that is simply stellar is their Bacon Cheddar Chicken Ranch. The “chicken” is soft, but textured, and I love that they use a Smart-Bacon like bacon product, not tempeh bacon (which I personally utterly detest). The combination of the Daiya Cheddar and the Veganaise-like sauce makes for a truly zen-like lunch or even dinner experience. If you don’t like lettuce, be sure to alert them, since there is quite a large piece of lettuce inside. 4.5 out of 5 carrots!

A quick thanksgiving treat!

Since Thanksgiving is coming up, it’s only appropriate to include a sandwich that is worthy of your palate before you *ahem embark on your vegan feasts. The “Thanksgiving” sandwich includes tofurky, cranberry sauce, walnuts, celery and veganaise. It’s a simple sandwich, something not too heavy that would suit any pre-gym or shopping workout. I, however, found it just a tad too bare for my taste… it was also a bit dry, since the actual sandwich did not have much in the middle. 3.5 out of 5.

On that note, get going on that Tofurky roast!! Hungry mouths await!

Ladybird, a Vegetable Far

I’m all for vegan brunch spots, if they actually measure up. It takes a lot to get me out on a weekend. Ladybird looked quite promising: their insta showed alluring snaps of “yolky” vegan eggs, millenial-pink digs and a welcome escape from the drudgery of doing dishes. So, one sunny Saturday I headed out after […]

Delice & Sarrasin is IN

Vegan cuisine tends to get the short end of the stick when it comes to more “international” type cuisine. For instance, I’ve never seen a restaurant devoted to vegan German, Ecuadorian or, say, Australian food. Granted, there sometimes are certain dishes that are/can be made vegan in these cuisines, but not a fully dedicated vegan […]

UK: Mildred’s of Soho

Vegans in the UK are pretty much like the ones in Brooklyn: hipster, punk-ish and fond of fair-trade anything. The only real difference is that they have an English accent (which really makes all the difference). As I strolled about the trendy Carnaby Street ‘hood (also known as SoHo in the UK), I was struck […]

Coco-mels Melt in your Mouth

cocomel vegan chao review caramel

Ahh, caramels: that little pleasure in life that is just indulgent enough to not make you feel fat if you eat one, but what about six? Six is the notated serving size on the packaging of Cocomels, a delightful, chewy vegan version of Werther’s that I chanced upon at my local CVS. The impish makers […]
