Vegan Divas – A Delectable Treat

Anyone who knows me knows how much I looove my baked goods. Chocolate, coconut, lemon, strawberry… almost any flavor gets my mouth watering, especially if it comes in adorable packaging (well, if it came in any type of packaging, I would be ripping it off anyway… but still, it’s nice!)

Vegan Divas had offered a great dessert sampler on Spencer’s Market, which I of course hunted down and captured like a hungry peregrine falcon. It included:

  • 4 Chocolate chip cookies
  • 4 Coconut macaroons
  • 1 Brownie
  • 1 Cinnamon doughnut
  • 1 Toasted coconut doughnut
  • 1 Chocolate doughnut

All for just $28.00, and gluten-free as well! That’s pretty good, considering a trip to Babycakes for the same stuff would likely cost $30-$40.

So let’s start with my favorite thing: the donuts!

Vegan Divas Donuts –

I’ll take 3 in each flavor, please!
The yummy view from the inside of a plain VD donut.

The donuts came in a choice of three flavors: good ol’ plain, chocolate frosted, and toasted coconut. Each donut is approximately a little smaller than size of a CD, and super tasty. I like that the consistency is nice and moist, and it tastes great when dipped in Silk! However, I felt that the coconut one was the moistest and tastiest out of all three. They were all stellar, though, and not so big that you feel like a fatass after devouring 2 of them simultaneously (which I did, of course).

Ingredients: Organic Unbleached Spelt Flour, Baking Powder, Baking Soda, Kosher Salt, Organic Tofu, Canola Oil, Organic Soy Milk, Maple Syrup, Vanilla Extract, Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, Cinnamon Sugar, Organic Coconut Oil.

Brownie –

My favorite thing to eat after a long day of work: a moist brownie with soy.
You can see the yummy chips inside each moist brownie, yum!

This was probably my favorite product out of the whole package: soft, delicious, chocolate-y and above all, DIPPABLE! I think it’s probably one of the best brownies I’ve ever had, actually, vegan or non-vegan. I loved that it has these great mini-chocolate chips inside, and that it’s compact enough to cut into little brownie bite squares if I didn’t want a whole brownie. But you know I would just stuff the whole thing in my mouth anyway. I just wish I had about 4 more pieces!!

Ingredients: Organic Unbleached Spelt Flour, Non-Dairy Chocolate Chips, Organic Cocoa Powder, Evaporated Cane Juice, Organic Soy Milk, Egg Replacer, Canola Oil, Baking Powder, Vanilla Extract, Kosher Salt. Made with Organic Ingredients. Vegan, Kosher, Pareve.

Chocolate Chip Cookies –

Not my favorite, but that’s just me.

A total 360 degrees from the brownie, these cookies were dry, bland and pretty much a total letdown. They tasted much better after I dipped them in soy, but otherwise I didn’t like them much at all. I’m guessing the reason they taste this way is because of the primary ingredient being spelt (which is true for the whole line of Vegan Diva’s products), which when used on its own yields cookies that aren’t soft or pliable… though it’s probably healthier than conventional APF (all-purpose flour). I’d say save your $ on these and bake some yourself, they’ll probably come out a lot tastier!

Ingredients: Organic Unbleached Spelt Flour, Non-Dairy Chocolate Chips, Sucanat, Organic Cocoa Powder, Evaporated Cane Juice, Organic Soy Milk, Egg Replacer, Canola Oil, Baking Powder, Vanilla Extract, Kosher Salt.

Macaroons –

So delicious, the perfect combo of coconut and almonds!

I really enjoyed the taste of these macaroons, which had a yummy almond aroma and flavor in addition to toasted coconut… in fact, it was almost like a coconut-almond cookie! Each macaroon was a great size, about that of a golf ball, and was a satisfying treat for sure. They also held up nicely after being dipped… maybe I should make a separate category for dip-pability too?

Ingredients: 100% Pure Coconut, Almonds, Arrowroot, Evaporated Cane Juice, Canola Oil, Coconut Extract, Vanilla Extract, Almond Extract, Kosher Salt, Baking Powder.
Overall, I really loved the Vegan Diva dedication to great, pure ingredients and above all, the lovely taste! Pick up some donuts and brownies today!

Just Sweet, some yummy dumplings

A while ago, a friend and I stopped by popular shaved-ice and dessert shop Just Sweet in St. Marks, after a long, tiring but fulfilling day hitting the shops. Normally, it can be a bit difficult to find something hot, vegan and substantially filling around 11:00-12:00 a.m., but I was very pleased to find that […]

Lan Café – A Home Away From Home

Vietnamese food has been one of the hardest things to find in a vegan version—which is odd because you’d think a cuisine that is wholly based on rice vermicelli and bean sprouts would have ample veggie options. Yet as I rudely discovered, Viets love to put beef and chicken broth in their noodle soups, which […]

Chocolate Wafer Mini Heart Cake

I’ve always been a proponent of making my own birthday cakes… why pay for an expensive, store-bought confection that’s not even fresh when you can make your own delectable desserts? So of course, I opted to create a chocolate cake encased in hazelnut wafers for Ray’s birthday. I love this recipe from The Joy of […]

Easter Bunny Corn

Candy corn has always been one of those candies that you don’t know you miss… until you can’t have it. Traditional candy corn typically contains gelatin, albumen, beeswax and honey (which I don’t mind, since I eat honey), so it had been a looong time since I devoured a handful. Luckily for me, Jelly Belly […]
