So Delicious Minis Coconut Almond Bars Are EXACTLY That

I’ve always had an affinity for chocolate with nuts. Almonds & chocolate, peanuts & chocolate, macadamia & chocolate, raisins and chocolate, broccoli and chocolate… ok no, but I think you catch my chocolate-y drift.

So you can imagine my glee and overwhelming palate-pangs of emotion when I first spied this particular product sitting in the frozen section of Whole Foods.

Could I have found the sacred vegan almond-crunch ice cream of the ages?
Could I have found the sacred vegan almond-crunch ice cream of the ages?

Could I have, at long last, found my replacement for those Vanilla Milk Chocolate-Almond Häagen-Dazs bars? Have my prayers for vegan ice cream that doesn’t suck finally been answered? More importantly, when am I going to stop asking silly rhetorical questions?

So Delicious Minis Coconut Almond Bars:

Like the sleeker, prudent and no-less deserving Tofutti Marry Me Bar predecessor before it, the Coconut Almond bar features a luscious vanilla-cream filling encased in a glorious crunchy, chocolate shell. Except that the filling is actually crafted from indulgent frozen coconut-cream, which, in my opinion, is waay better than vanilla-flavored soy ice cream.

Each bar is a little bigger than your palm. Unless you're Andre the Giant, of course.

Check out the tasty ingredients:

NON-DAIRY FROZEN DESSERT [ORGANIC COCONUT MILK (WATER, ORGANIC COCONUT CREAM), ORGANIC AGAVE SYRUP, CHICORY ROOT EXTRACT, CAROB BEAN GUM, GUAR GUM, NATURAL COCONUT FLAVOR].

CHOCOLATE COATING (BEET SUGAR, CHOCOLATE LIQUOR, COCONUT OIL AND/OR PALM OIL, COCOA BUTTER, SOY LECITHIN, SALT, VANILLA EXTRACT), ALMONDS, TOASTED COCONUT.

That’s right, this little baby is made with pronounceable ingredients! It’s a miracle! That’s saying a lot, considering how much crap usually goes into vegan ice cream. Not saying it’s all nutritionally good for you, but hey, it’s ice cream we’re talking about here.

What I love about this bar is the richness and texture of both the outside of the bar and the cream… they really don’t skimp on how much chocolate is in the shell, because it’s pretty damn thick. The crunch of the almonds complements the light, refreshing, soft cream inside perfectly, rounding out the flavor and sweetness of the chocolate. It’s definitely my favorite ice cream bar that I have tried so far, by far!

The filling does taste like coconut, albeit faintly, so if you hate coconut, then well, obviously this little dessert-on-a-stick isn’t for poor you. Why on earth would you ever hate coconut though?!

The coconut cream filling really makes the bar unique and gives it a luscious consistency.

The only gripe I have is the price: at $6.99 for a box of 4 mini bars, it can be pretty steep. At the time of this posting, the bars were $4.00 on sale at Whole Foods, which is a steal compared to the regular price. I would snap them up quick! But not too quick… because I want like 200 of them. Save me some, ok? And maybe make a petition to have So Delicious create a King-Size bar next time?

Indian Road Café Brunch Vegan Review: Is the Long-Ass Walk Worth it?

I’m all for the hole-in-the-walls, undiscovered-nookish, indie-caliber restaurants, cafés, eateries, or whatever-the-eff-you-want-to-call-ems. When you “stumble upon” a place that makes you feel like you’ve really discovered a culinary gem, you really can’t compare the feeling (though biting into a So Delicious Almond Crunch Bar comes pretty darn close). But Indian Road Café kind of let […]

A Touch of Pink – Fashion Friday

Sometimes, it’s just too much work to be cute, especially when it’s so cold outside. That’s why I like to rely on the color of my comfortable basics to do the talking for my otherwise lazy self. Here, I show you how a pair of pink jeans can really freshen  up your look— so you […]

Cinnamon Snail, Cinnamon Donuts

Sometimes the universe astounds me: I’ve had really good food, really shitty food, and just plain ehh food at more brick-and-mortar restaurants than I can count. So I didn’t really expect too much from a vegan food truck– I mean, if a permanent building with a permanent kitchen can’t even turn out a decent entrée, why […]

Edo Pack Snacks, Chocolatey Fun

When I’m not near the city but still want to enjoy some yummy “fancy-ish” chocolate snacks, all I have to do is walk over to my local Chinese supermarket and check out their snack aisle. Surprisingly, there are puhlenttttty of cheap, affordable, unadvertised  vegan snacks to be scavenged in such a place, which makes it […]
